Ivins History

Snow Canyon State Park is an amazing geologic spectacle located in Utah’s southwestern corner near Ivins. Ancient sand dunes, up to 2,500 feet thick, cemented, creating Navajo sandstone exhibiting colors ranging from burnt orange to creamy white. From 2.5 million to 20,000 years ago, nearby cinder cones erupted, creating black lava flows. Ancient waterways formed the sandstone and lava rock into the canyons and formations visitors see in the park today.

Besides hiking and mountain biking, park visitors also enjoy wildlife viewing, photography, ranger talks, junior ranger programs and camping in the park’s campground.

Snow Canyon should not be the only thing on your itinerary when you visit the Ivins area. Ivins boasts the Tuacahn Amphitheater, a unique outdoor venue that presents Broadway musicals, concerts and other special events throughout the year amidst a backdrop of red sandstone cliffs. Nearby you will also find scenic golf courses, outlet shopping, pioneer historic sites, and museums. When planning a trip to this red rock paradise, contact the Ivins Tourism Council.
